Meerschaum is a natural material mined as stone from areas in Northern Africa. Formed over 150 million years ago from sedimentary deposits of extinct crustaceans, it is very porous and light in weight, but when crafted by the only converters in the world outside Turkey, it has the qualities of providing the coolest, driest smoke obtainable. Over the passage of time, the bowl absorbs moisture from the burning tobacco and mellows in colour to shades of autumn gold. One other advantage is that it never burns, thereby ensuring that only tobacco flavours reach the tongue of the user. Our selection of Creamy Gold through to Polished Russet, mounted Black Coral and special hand carved silver mounted pipes provides you with the coolest smoking Somalian Meerschaums available in the world today - at a very competitive price.
Meerschaum lined pipes are produced in Northern Italy created from crushed Meerschaum stone which is then compressed into a dense block. The block is then placed inside a Mediterranean Briar bowl, after which the tobacco chamber is bored out, leaving a cool absorbent lining that protects the briar from carbonising and helps to avoid burn-out, even when smoking plug, twist or coarse flaked tobaccos. Available in handsomely polished Tiger-Eye range or the rugged Knurl Carved range - whichever you choose, you will enjoy the coolest, driest smoking experience.
The Legacy range was introduced a while back as a means to satisfy those smoking friends who preferred a "harder bite" stem for their pipes. The traditional benefits of the standard smoking pipe (variety, size and mouthpiece variation) are just as desirable today as they have ever been. The challenge was to combine these elements with all the advantages of the 'Magic Inch' system - and not to lose anything in the new design. At the same time, the desire to improve the Magic Inch system, based on years of knowledge and testing, created a second, more difficult challenge. The extent to which this challeng has been met can be dramatically demonstrated by the first bowl you smoke. Smoothness, flavour, comfort and quality are undeniably there.
